Background
Born in the El-nar province on Betazed, Tallana had a very sheltered childhood, tutored at home by her mother while her father was away with Starfleet as Captain of the USS Salamanca. She never got a real chance to develop social friendships until her late teens and as such was always percieved as a shy and retiring young woman.
After being taught a primarily medically based curriculem by her mother, Tallana decided to follow a combination of both her parents' footsteps and apply to Starfleet Medical Academy. Her already high medical knowledge combined with her parents respected positions ensured the acceptance of her application and in 2372 she left Betazed for the first time and travelled to earth for her Starfleet basic training. Tallana found the first year of her training to be an unpleasant experience. Her shy nature attracted the more 'boistrous' of the cadets and she found herself to be the subject of much bullying. This came to a head in an elaborate prank taht backfired, killing one Cadet and seriously injuring another. Nyrii was able to save the injured student and even though no blame was attributed to her in the inquiry, she felt an immense guilt at the death of the Cadet and turned down a commendation on her record. It has, unknown to her, sat hidden on her record since that time.
After completing the first year' basic training Tallana moved into the Starfleet Medical Academy for her medical training and found herself much happier. Her fellow students were all dedicated to the same aims as her and her previous medical knowledge made her a popular choice as a lab-partner. In her second year of starfleet medical, Her course leader recommended that Tallana study for a PhD alongside her medical training. Nyrii took this advice and enrolled in a course on Molecular Biology.
Four years later, Tallana emerged from Starfleet Medical Academy second in her class as a lieutenant junior grade with her Medical Doctorate in one hand and a PhD in the other. She was offered a number of high-profile assignments, but turned them all down for a posting aboard the USS Delphi, A medical research ship. Tallana spent the next three years rapidly working her way up through the department, quickly making Head of Bio-molecular research before jumping up to Asst Chief Medical Officer. Soon after she gained a promotion to Lieutenant and was offered the CMO on Tranquility Station.
Tallana took the opportunity for the transfer, excited at the prospect of such a responsible position (The Medical Complex of the station covers a complete 2 decks and is responsible for the health and welfare of thousands of starfleet, non-starfleet and civilian personnel.)
Again, Tallana settled in well, and the next two years passed eventfully. The station's name of Tranqulity was greatly deceptive and the crew found themselves facing a number of dangerous situations. The most dangerous of these situations came in mid-2382. Tallana had been promoted to Lt Cmdr and the whole senior staff were to under-go a basic spec-ops training from a visiting crew. The training went uneventfully until the final training simulation in which the SPec-Ops team went rogue, sealing off the exercise area and calmly eliminating the crew trapped inside. Tallana's lack of combat training forced her to run away, and as such she blamed herself for the deaths of several of the crew.
The situation was eventually brought under control by the elimination of the spec-ops team but the event left a psychological mark in Nyrii's mind. She couldn't forgive herself for her actions and so she made the decision to request full spec-ops training in the hope that by becoming that she wished to fight she would never againn be unable to help those in need because of her own fears or inabilities.
Her extensive medical and Starfleet experience earned her a place on a six-month intensive program and when she emerged the other side of it she was a changed woman. Hardened to the things she had previously feared and with a new range of abilities at her disposal.
Despite all she has been through, some of the Shy young Tallana Nyrii remains and can show through when she is un-happy or particularly stressed. She also still finds it hard to make friends, especially in such a hostile environment as the Spec-Ops Community.
Realising her life seemed to have no real dirction anymore, Tallana came close to resigning her commision, but was convinced to take a leave of absence as an alternative. Over the next year and a half, Tallana spent a lot of time visiting old friends and family, as well as visiting a number of worlds whose cultural backgrounds she found interesting.
Her life now back on track, Tal returned to Starfleet, attending a six month Command course before taking the vacant position of CO aboard her old assignment, DS-15. Due to tensions with the local populace on the planet below, the station was moved from the Nohlori sector later that year. Tallana was re-assigned back to the Valkyrie, although within a year she found herself on the move once again as the ship was dry-docked over a possible latent design flaw with the Xenon class.

In 2388, Tallana was re-assigned to DS-15, under the Command of Fleet Captain Tal Ket, as Executive Officer. At this time she was promoted to Senior Captain and asked to take up the office of Fleet Chief of Staff in addition to her duties as XO of Tranquility.
