What is the JAG Corps?

Simply put, the JAG Corps is a group of five men and women who serve with Alpha Fleet. They come from a variety of rolls within the fleet and not all of them are commanding officers of their own sims. The JAG Corps is meant to have a diversity of opinions, viewpoints and experiences which allow for an intelligent and well-informed debate.

What does the JAG Corps do?

The JAG Corps exists as a sort of arbiter when it comes down to a member of the fleet having possibly violated the Alpha Fleet Constitution. The intent is to provide an unbiased third party which can look into allegations and make an independent assessment of what has happened. Should it be found that the constitution has been violated and that harm has been done, the JAG Corps meets to debate a reasonable course of action.

How can I join?

The JAG Corps is designed to operate with five members including the JAG Commanding Officer and Executive Officer. We are always willing to accept applications even if we don't have an opening at the time. If there's no room we'll keep the application on file and get back to you as soon as we can. It's worth remembering that, from time to time, we need to appoint temporary members and showing an interest is an excellent way to get onboard.

Who can contact the JAG Corps?

Anyone with a concern. Even if you're not sure that your complaint or concern is valid, feel free to contact a member with questions. We're more than happy to speak with you and to work to clear up the matter.

Who can ask for a case to be opened?

Again, anyone can. If you're asking for a formal investigation just make sure that you have some supporting evidence (emails, logged conversations, screen shots, etc.) on hand and available to be produced for review. The JAG Corps takes the need for a preponderance of evidence pretty seriously.

What does it mean when I get an Unofficial Warning?

Unofficial Warnings are issued by the JAG as a sort of "knock it off" message. No official action has taken place prior to the warning having been issued and it doesn't qualify as a conviction under the JAG Constitution. Unofficial Warnings are not entered into the record (unlike Official Warnings) and, should the behavior not be repeated, will be considered to have never have happened.

What if I don't like the JAG Corps decision?

The JAG Corps does not pretend to be the end-all-be-all of Alpha Fleet when it comes down to conflict resolution. We still serve at the discretion of the Command Council and an appeals process has been built in should you have a major problem with what decision was reached. We'll walk you through the process if it comes down to that.
